Utility Box Mural Project — Montgomery, Calgary, AB

Birds of Calgary is a public art project created as part of Calgary Arts Development’s Utility Box Public Art program in the summer of 2026.

The project transforms three utility boxes in Bowness and Montgomery into murals featuring local bird species: a magpie, a robin, and a goose. Inspired by the movement of birds and the principles of frame-by-frame animation, the murals capture small, everyday gestures through sequential imagery.

The project encourages curiosity, environmental awareness, and a deeper appreciation for the wildlife that shares our neighbourhoods.
